Hi everyone! Right now I am blogging from that tiny dot on the lower right corner of the map below.

Neill and I are on day 3 of our honeymoon! We sprung for internet access in our room today ($13…rip off!) because we wanted to email our parents since calling them would have been way more expensive. I decided to write a quick blog post and let everyone know that I haven’t fallen off the face of the earth.
St. Lucia is such a beautiful place! The beach is gorgeous, and the resort where we are staying has lots of pools and restaurants where we have been eating way too much. Today we went on a 2 hour horseback ride on the beach. We even rode bareback in the water for a while. I felt like I was in a movie or something. We saw several dogs during our ride. We saw one man walking his 2 dogs and goat on the beach! The goat was frolicking along and splashing through the waves just like a dog! When the man saw us looking at him, he laughed and said, “Yes…I take my goat to the beach.” I thought that was so funny. Hey, if I had a goat that liked the beach I would do the same thing! People treat their animals with a great deal of respect here which makes me very happy. We have seen lots of dogs and goats, and a few cats. I saved a small chunk of tuna steak from my dinner last night and fed it to the resort cat that hangs around here. Neill thought I was kinda crazy when I shoved a napkin full of tuna in my purse.
I can’t wait to share some photos from our trip! I have gotten in some great practice shooting on manual and there is definitely no shortage of beautiful things to photograph! Slow shutter speeds + crashing waves = very cool photos.
Oh…I almost forgot the neatest thing so far. Today during our horseback ride we stopped at a little bar on the beach to use the restroom and get a drink. I was fiddling with my camera bag and noticed Neill giving me these huge eyes and twitching his head. He was silently saying, “Look over there!” Well I looked to my right, and Amy Winehouse was standing about 3 feet away from me. How cool is that!!? I was totally starstruck. And yesterday we saw Melissa from The Bachelor (the one Jason proposed to and then dumped). She was with her new boyfriend who looks like a super model. Apparently St. Lucia is a celebrity hangout.
I better go to bed now. Tomorrow we are going on a gondola ride through the jungle. I can’t wait…my camera will be glued to me!
I have been a bad blogger lately. Planning my wedding has taken up a lot of my time, but the big day is finally here. I am getting married at 6:00 today! Just wanted to let everyone know I haven’t abandoned my blog.
Neill and I are headed to St. Lucia on Tuesday for our honeymoon. I hope to have some fun photos to share when I get back. Please cross your fingers that the rain will stay away from Fayetteville, AR today!
and my friend Megan is worried sick. Please pass this on to anyone who lives in the Holcomb Elementary area of Fayetteville!!! He got out of his backyard sometime on Saturday night. He is still a baby…less than a year old. His coat is long, light brown and black brindle. Please keep your eyes peeled for him!

UPDATE 5/23/09: Still no sign of Tucker. He has been missing for a week now. His parents have put flyers all over town, an ad in the newspaper, and an ad on Craigslist.
A few more favorites from our session last week…

small dog + tall grass = cool photos

This next one is a new favorite of mine. I love how proud he looks with his big red bone.

What’s this? A human on my blog?! Yep…this is Wendy and her 3 adorable dogs.

I met 3 great dogs yesterday named Harley, Hercules, and Huckleberry. I’m still working on their photos but here is a sneak peek of my progress. Harley and Hercules look very much alike and I hope I have gotten it correct that this is in fact Hercules.
There are several things I like about this photo…
- Hercules’ expression
- I like how the tall grass almost makes it look like Hercules is playing peek-a-boo.
- The image is in focus (that definitely doesn’t happen on every shot, especially with dogs!)
Here is what bugs me about this photo…
- The icky grey tint most digital photos have straight out of the camera. (I have recently discovered new tricks to fix this.)
- That rock wall isn’t in the middle, but it’s also not far enough to one side to give the photo any extra interest. I don’t like how it’s only behind his little ear. I think it needs to be more behind him, or not there at all.
- I don’t like that blade of grass right in front of his tongue.
- The image needs to be cropped so that Hercules fills up more of the frame.

AFTER 15 minutes in Photoshop…

If I could, I would mess around in Photoshop all day long and learn new things. I think it’s the coolest invention ever. I’m still trying to figure out my specific “style” for processing photos, and I think I’m getting there. Whenever I have a bad or stressful day I just sit down at my computer, open up a photo and go to town on it. It’s art to me…and I hope other people think so too.
And just for fun…head over to my friend Jamie’s blog for a little glimpse of our double bachelorette weekend.
Spring is kitten season at the shelter. Looking to adopt a kitten? Well now is the time! Yesterday at the shelter I saw a cage full of these little guys. There is nothing cuter than a tiny kitten.
