Meet Mattie, a 6 year old Blue Heeler who lives with Henri and Daphne. She is such a friendly girl and I really enjoyed spending time with her. If Mattie was my dog, I could never say no to that sweet face!

Finally a cat for the blog! I was actually at her house to photograph Henri, but I couldn’t resist taking a few photos of Daphne. She was lounging right near a large window with some soft, natural light on her. This gorgeous girl was rescued about 8 years ago right after a severe tornado in the College Station area near Little Rock. She was just a tiny kitten when she was found on the side of the road by Mary’s son, a sheriff, who was driving through the disaster area shortly after the tornado hit. She was so small she had to be bottle fed at first!

My friend Jamie sent me this video and it’s cracking me up. I have a Roomba and my cats hate it!

This handsome little guy is a 1 year old Miniature Schnauzer. He is my very first Schnauzer to ever photograph! Henri is smart, playful, and full of personality! Henri’s mom Mary got him as a Christmas gift last year from her grand daughter Michelle. Then this year for Mary’s birthday, Michelle got her a photo shoot with me. I’d say Michelle gives pretty good gifts, don’t you think!? :)
So I have been thinking and thinking and thinking about something for a while now. When I decided I wanted to start this business I had a hard time figuring out what I wanted to call it. I originally wanted to use my name (Rachel Starr Photography), because I really liked the simplicity of it. But since I was engaged and I knew my name would change soon, I came up with Four Legs Photography and decided to use that. I will also tell you that there is another Rachel Starr on the internet who I DO NOT want to be associated with. I think you get my drift and if you don’t you can google her at your own risk. Just don’t do it at work if your boss could walk up behind you. ;) While I like my cute business name, I am considering changing it to my married name (Rachel Sloan Photography). I’m less than 6 months months away from being Rachel Sloan. I like that name and I think Rachel Sloan Photography sounds nice. I would still be focused on photographing animals but when someone asks if their family can be in the photos it just might fit better since people don’t have four legs. As long as there are clients that want me to photograph their pets, I will do that because it is what I love. My new business name would just give me a little more flexibility in case I do branch out in the future. I don’t know what to do. I think using my name would also help people to remember me more easily. Lots of people think I am Four Paws Photography and then they try to find that website and it isn’t me. Some people think I am 4 (like the actual number 4) Legs Photography and go to that website, and it isn’t me either. It would also make paperwork a little simpler for me. Most of my favorite photographers use their name for their photography business and I think it’s really classy and I like the simplicity of it. According to my blog stats there are actually people reading my blog! So I would love to know what you think.
Just so I don’t post without a photo, here is what maggie does while I work on my computer…

Today is a good day because I was accepted into the Pampered Puppy directory! I’m super excited about this because they only accept 20% of all websites that apply for a free listing. I applied over 2 months ago and I just assumed they didn’t want me, but I was wrong. I got an email this morning letting me know I had been listed in their photography directory. I was hesitant to apply because the photographers and artists listed on their site are REALLY talented, and I wasn’t sure if I was in the same category. I decided to give it a shot anyways, and I got in!!! :)
If you aren’t familiar with Pampered Puppy you must check it out. They have all sorts of pet products and listings of pet related services all over the country. All pet owners should check out the Pampered Puppy especially if you spoil your dogs like I do. You can click here to see my listing. Scroll down to “F” and there I am! They say the pampered puppy gets over 200,000 visitors a month. YAY!
Do I offer them? Well yes I do. :) A Four Legs Photography gift certificate would make a fun and unique holiday gift for the animal lover on your list. And you don’t have to fight the crowds to get one since I will mail it right to your house! They are available in any amount, for instance you could purchase one for the $75 session fee (which includes 2 prints), or you could add on a little extra money so your loved one can have a few more prints made. After the holidays, the recipient of the gift certificate can call me to schedule their session at their convenience. The pet owner in your life will cherish beautiful photos of their four legged babies for years to come.
I would like to share some photos of 2 really cute kids I met a few weeks ago. This brother and sister pair were adorable and very easy to work with. I will always remember them because they are the first children I have ever photographed! Although photographing animals is what I really love, I must say it was a lot of fun photographing these guys. They were naturally happy and smiley during the whole session. Remember Licorice from a few posts back? Caroline and Charlie are his human siblings.
I found myself smiling while looking through their photos. I hope these made you smile too! :)
If you have already spoken to me about your 2008 holiday cards, you’re good. If you want to order holiday cards and have not contacted me about this, you should email me ASAP. They take several days to get printed and shipped, so I won’t be taking anymore orders after this week.
